Short Bio

I am Karma Chuki, an artist from the beautiful, land-locked country, Bhutan, famously known as the last Shangri-la. Now based in New York City and New Jersey, I am proud to be a dancer with Rovaco Dance Company and HT Chen & Dancers in New York City, as well as with MeenMoves Dance Company in New Jersey.

Teaching dance is also one of my passsion, and I love to share my skills whenever I can. I have worked closely with Brice Mousset, assisting him in his classes and helping during the creation process for Ailey Certificate students in 2023.

My roots in dance run deep, having spent eight transformative years with Navdhara India Dance Theater in Mumbai under the inspiring direction of Ashley Lobo. As one of the company’s pioneers, I played a pivotal role as a dancer, teacher, and performer, contributing to the creation of three major repertoire pieces- “AMAARA,” “AGNI,” and “A Passage to Bollywood”- and performed in various shorter pieces like “Sound of Silence”, “The Loop” and “Two-gether”. These works not only showcased my skills as a principal soloist but also took me on a remarkable journey across the globe, performing in diverse cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Canada, Israel, South Africa, Turkey, Bahrain, Germany, Poland, China, Taiwan, Shanghai and the US.

In New York, I had the pleasure of working with Dance Entropy under Valerie Green from October 2021-March 2024, where I have been immersed in her latest evening-length project “HOME” collaborating with choreographers from around the world, including Lebanon, Burkina Faso, India, Colombia, Sweden and the USA. I have also performed in pieces like “Everything” and “Splash” at various venues in New York City and Long Island. Additionally, I danced with SarAika Collective and Sandsilk Dance company between 2022-2023.

In 2023, I proudly made my debut at the prestigious Metropolitan Opera, performing in Des Moines Metro Opera's enchanting production of “The Love for Three Oranges” in Iowa. My artistic journey also includes participation in the Dance Lab Fall Season in New York City, a platform that celebrates creation process, innovation and collaboration in dance.

Through my diverse experiences, my journey in dance has taught me the importance of mindfulness, self-awareness, education and sharing knowledge. I aim to reshape how we view dance as a connector to both physical and mental well-being. I believe in hard work, passion, having our own practice and staying open to new experiences, all while maintaining a resilient mindset.

Join me as i continue to explore the boundless possibilities of dance, celebrating culture, connection, and the transformative power of movement.
